Jog on the Tyne

THE Red Arrows give Great North Runners a jet boost yesterday as they cross Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge.

A record 52,000 competitors made it the world’s biggest half marathon.

And while the rest of England was drenched in rain, the runners and crowds along the 13½-mile route were treated to some sunshine.

Runners included men dressed as Toon soccer legend Alan Shearer and a banana.

Emmerdale’s Tony Audenshaw, Matthew Wolfenden, Nicola Wheeler and Chris Chittell took part.

TV star Nell McAndrew, clad as Wonder Woman, dedicated her jog to dad Ted, who bravely fought cancer.

Runners raised £10million for good causes.
