JASON Plato only had a mountain to climb before Silverstone’s British Touring Car Championship races – now he must clamber over the entire Himalayas if he is to snatch the title from arch-rival Fabrizio Giovanardi.

Another roller-coaster day for the Sun-backed SEAT driver saw him win Race 1 from pole position at the Formula 1 venue.

And he led the other two races before set-up problems in soaking conditions wrecked his tyres and saw him slip back to disappointing seventh and fifth places.

Meanwhile gleeful Giovanardi swept by to win Race 2 and finish third in Race 3 to keep racking up those vital championship points.

Plato heads to the final round at Brands Hatch 44pts adrift of the Vauxhall star with a maximum of 52 on offer – if he wins all three races and sets fastest lap in each. A VERY tall order.

The Sun caught up with both Plato and Giovanardi and put them shoulder-to-shoulder for a fascinating video interview in which they looked back at the Silverstone showdown and ahead to the final episode of their epic battle.

They also told us why 'old' guys like them – they’re both over 40 – are still showing the young turks the way home.
