Romo steers Cowboys home

MAIN MAN ... Tony Romo was the inspiration in the Dallas Cowboys' victory

TONY ROMO guided the Dallas Cowboys to touchdowns on their first three drives and points on the first four, then turned that early blitz into a 34-9 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in yesterday’s Thanksgiving romp.

That made it three wins in a row for the Cowboys, matching their best roll of the season, all coming since quarterback Romo returned from a broken right pinkie finger.

Romo, threw for 331 yards and Dallas are now 8-4 and back near the top of the NFC play-off race. Now comes the hard part -staying there.

The Cowboys’ next three games are against Pittsburgh, the New York Giants and Baltimore.

That stretch will be even tougher if they are without linebacker DeMarcus Ware and running back Marion Barber.

Both left with injuries in the third quarter, Ware because of a sprained left knee and Barber - who had a two-yard touchdown run in the first quarter - with a bruised right pinkie toe.

However, most Cowboys fans will feel they have a chance as long as that man Romo is fit and firing.Ware, who notched four tackles and three sacks, said: “I feel like we’ve got our swagger back - especially with romo back.

“We’re scoring a lot more points and he is giving us better opportunities.”

The Seahawks lost their fifth straight game and fell to 2-10 for the season. It matches the most losses in a season outgoing coach Mike Holmgren has had in his 17 years in the NFL - and there are four games left.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for 281 yards but could not get his side into the end zone. All of their points came from three Olindo Mare field goals.

The Cowboys stormed to a 24-6 interval lead on two Romo TD passes, one to Martellus Bennett in the first quarter and the other to tight end Jason Whitten, who finished with 115 yards receiving despite playing with injured ribs, in the second.Terrell Owens caught a 19-yard touchdown pass in the third.

Romo said: “It will be a challenge for us to make the play-offs but we feel confident in out ability to win games and I like our chances.”

Earlier, TENNESSEE TITANS rebounded in spectacular style to give the Detroit Lions a 47-10 holiday mauling.

After watching their bid for a perfect season end with last week’s defeat by the New York Jets, the ruthless Titans handed the Lions their heaviest defeat of the year after storming to a 35-10 half-time lead.

Chris Johnson and LenDale White each scored two first-half touchdowns, while Dave Ball intercepted a Daunte Culpepper pass and returned it 15 yards for another, sending some of the 60,112 capacity crowd off to the Ford Field exits BEFORE the interval.

The Lions, now 0-12, are closing in on the unwanted record of becoming the first NFL team to complete a season without a victory from 16 regular season games.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the last team to go an entire NFL campaign without a victory when they lost all 14 games of their debut season in 1976.

In the late game, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES scored a 48-20 home win over Arizona Cardinals.

Donovan McNabb threw four touchdown passes and Brian Westbrook tied a team-record with four scores.Just four days ago, McNabb was benched for the first time in his career during the Eagles’ 36-7 defeat at Baltimore.

But coach Andy Reid gave McNabb another chance and the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback responded with his best game since Week One.

McNabb completed 27 of 39 passes for 260 yards and a passer rating of 121.7. Westbrook had 110 yards rushing and 20 more receiving. He had two TDs on the ground and two receiving.

The Eagles (6-5-1) desperately needed to win to maintain their slim play-off hopes. They will have a few extra days to prepare for the New York Giants (10-1) on December 7.

The Cardinals (7-5) will clinch their first division title in 33 years if San Francisco lose at Buffalo on Sunday.Kurt Warner had 235 yards passing, three TDs and three interceptions
