And his opponent will be none other than ex-Pride FC superstar Wanderlei Silva – IF the Brazilian accepts the terms the UFC have offered him for the fight.
If Silva agrees to the bout, it will be the third time he and Jackson have squared off in a mixed martial arts clash.
The pair last fought in Pride FC in October 2004, with Silva stopping the American in the second round following a devastating barrage of knees from the clinch.
And prior to that, they faced off in the same promotion in November 2003, with the legendary Brazil MMA star scoring a first round TKO victory.
Speaking to Setanta Sports News’ Ultimate Talk programme, Jackson said: “On those two days he was the better man. Hopefully I can change things this time round and it can be my night - if he takes the fight.
"I fight on December 27 and I'm hoping it's against him. And if it is I'm going to be ready to steamroller him.
“It doesn't matter if he's beaten me twice before, it matters on the night.
“But the UFC have approached a few people to take the fight and a couple of them have turned it down.”
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jackson, 30, has not fought since losing the title to Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 in July.
He ditched Juanito Ibarra as his manager following that loss to team up with SunSport columnist Michael Bisping’s Wolfslair camp.
